bookshelf

i do most of my reading on libby (ty local library + the Queer Liberation Library), supplemented with the occasional audiobook on spotify, physical book, etc.

while this works best for me in terms of attention span and cost it does mean i miss out on having a tangible collection as evidence of what i've read.

i'd like to document the books i've read this year here because i think it's a cool idea.

read in 2025 so far:

Spear

by Nicola Griffith
published: April 19, 2022

re-listened to this cause i recommended it to a friend and wanted to revisit it

The Faggots & Their Friends Between Revolutions

by Larry Mitchell

illustrations are lovely, as is the writing

Rough Trade

by Katrina Carrasco

will probably revisit at some point

Love in a F*cked-Up World: How to Build Relationships, Hook Up, and Raise Hell Together

by Dean Spade

read twice, highly recommend if you are in the market for a self help book that’s not garbage

Polysecure: Attachment, Trauma and Consensual Non-monogamy

by Jessica Fern

by Kyle Lukoff
published: April 20, 2021

haven't really read middle grade books since i was a kid but found this one to be pretty good, did make me wish i had books like it growing up

Manhunt

by Gretchen Felker-Martin

read twice for book club on 03/30/25
very good, generally don't read much/any horror but really enjoyed this

A Short History of Trans Misogyny

by Jules Gill-Peterson
published: January 30, 2024

excellent, informative, will probably reread at some point

Stag Dance: A Novel & Stories

by Torrey Peters
published: March 11, 2025

so incredibly good!
went to a book reading with the author which was fantastic! didn't end up talking to the her cause i didn't buy a book to get signed and felt a bit anxious about not knowing what to say. a few of the things she spoke about during the Q&A have stuck with me since.

A/S/L

by Jeanne Thornton
published: April 1, 2025

ahhhhhhhh
this boooook

listened to an interview with the author and knew i needed to read this immediately upon release so i bought the audiobook instead of waiting for the library to get it

haven't read a book that captures some of my own thought processes quite as accurately as this one does

if you are autistic, trans, queer, and/or into video games/magic/cool things you'll probably like this

Cuckoo

by Gretchen Felker-Martin
published: June 11, 2024

did not finish before audiobook loan expired
i really liked Manhunt so i thought i'd give this one a try after waiting forever for the hold to come in, however i just wasn't in a headspace to read it unfortunately
will probably revisit at some point

Pretend It's My Body

by Luke Dani Blue
published: November 1, 2022

read for book club on 04/27/25
this was pretty good, i read it like the day before book club cause i wasn't sure if i could attend and couldn't find an audiobook so i had the kindle app read it to me which was not ideal but okay

Fugitive Telemetry

by Martha Wells
published: April 27, 2021

currently re-listening to this book for the ???th time, it and the last book were the only audiobooks available to borrow from the Murderbot Diaries series so i picked this one

all the books are pretty short so they're good if i want something to listen to that i know i'll enjoy and can be engaged by while i do random tasks
